Frequently Asked Questions

When you purchased your insurance policy, there was an agreement made that in the event of a claim, a pre-determined fee would be paid. This fee is the deductible and is not negotiable. Insurance companies require DKI – Rocky Cross Construction to collect the deductible upfront – no later than the end of the emergency claim.

Depending on the amount of damage to your property (and its contents) and general scope of the project, timing can vary. Our project managers will carefully assess the situation and provide you with a timeline.

Depending on the type of loss, each has its unique process. DKI – Rocky Cross Construction has decades of experience and is certified to handle all types of insurance property claims. If you have any questions about the process of your claim, our project managers will be there for you at any time to provide you with the details specific to your claim.

Insurance adjusters require that you sign a Work Authorization Form to confirm that we are able to begin the work on your property. The form also ensures that you are the owner of the property in question, and have the authority to allow us into the property.

A restoration company like DKI – Rocky Cross Construction is recommended because we know how to properly mitigate property damage and loss. By using a restoration company, you have project managers at your disposal that have dealt with thousands of claims and get your property back to normal quickly and effectively.

In addition, our project managers will discuss with your insurance company what caused the damage and confirm coverage. A good restoration contractor will never tell a customer that coverage is granted, without discussing with your insurance provider first. We are not insurance professionals, and we do not know your insurance policy.

Your project manager is always available to answer any questions related to the progress of the work being performed. Should you have questions regarding your insurance policy or coverage, your adjuster is the best person to contact.

You can, but we do not recommend it. By turning off any of the drying equipment (such as air movers and dehumidifiers) the drying process can take longer.
Additionally, it is critical to keep equipment running to prevent further damage associated with materials staying wet or damp for longer periods of time.

Affected content is brought back to one of our local storage facilities for listing, cleaning and restoring. DKI – Rocky Cross Construction will list and document every item processed for your claim.

Once content is processed, we will discuss with you if any items are beyond restoration and you will ultimately decide if you want to keep the item.

Asbestos/mould can have significant health implications if not handled properly. At DKI – Rocky Cross Construction, we go through great lengths to ensure our staff are properly trained and obtain certifications to handle asbestos. Our certified staff can carry out the process from start to finish.

Our project managers carefully examine the property and assess whether there may be asbestos. We take samples of materials and test them for asbestos.

We can also handle biohazard materials if necessary.

Absolutely. If you want to change or upgrade, we inform your adjuster and they will let us know if the changes are approved.

In cases where the desired upgrades/changes are not covered by your insurance, we will be more than happy to do that work for you, or find the right sub contractor to complete the work. Work performed by DKI – Rocky Cross Construction that is not covered by your insurance will need to be paid directly.

Yes. We provide full workmanship warranty for a period of 2 years. Some products used and installed during the reconstruction phase have their own warranty, which can last for many years. Your project manager will answer any questions you may have on warranty, specific to your restoration project.

This depends on the size of the loss, your home’s layout, and your comfort level. Our goal at DKI – Rocky Cross Construction is to keep you in your home as much as possible, while keeping your safety and comfort in mind.

Failure to properly remediate can have serious implications, both for your health and finances, such as growth of harmful microbial growth (i.e. mould) and void your insurance coverage. Finally, delaying remediation can spread the damage to your property resulting in increased future repair costs.

DKI – Rocky Cross Construction is covered by Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB), licensed, and insured.
